IGNIEUS is a sequencer for your brain. The system consists of icons or "gestures" that apply to electronic music making hardware devices or software including synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, and signal processors. Not every icon will apply to every device, and many devices will have features that are not represented in the system. However, IGNIEUS evolves as icons are added to the language supporting features and techniques.
By design, IGNIEUS does not include icons for note frequencies or durations as traditional notation does. Neither are time signatures represented. Instead the notation applies to familiar techniques using electronic instruments that feature the ability to sequence, synchronize, synthesize, sample, and/or process sound.
Create scores by placing icons from palettes of sonic events, control events, and chars (short for characteristics) into slots within lanes. Sonic events represents an audible gesture (i.e. drone, sequence, arpeggio). Control events manipulate or process existing sonic events. Chars are the initial characteristics of an event.
Use the edit paneleto place the icons. Only sonic and control icons can go into the slots of each lane. Only char icons can go into the char positions above each slot. Icons can be dragged from slot to slot or char to char. Hold alt or option while dragging to duplicate the icon in the new position.
Use the settings panelTto title and author the piece, choose which of the five lanes are active, decide how many slots per lane, choose how many chars per slot, select the color of each lane, and enable notes.
